Time to prepare for your upcoming photoshoot!

How to prepare for your upcoming photoshoot? If you have an upcoming photoshoot, and if you are not used to standing in front of a camera, it can be nerve wracking. Booking a photoshoot just for the fun of it can be a great way to boost your confidence – but you can also find that you feel a bit vulnerable. That is why I’m here to provide you with some guidelines “a models guide” that will help you feel your very best in front of the lens.

How to prepare for your upcoming photoshoot

Honesty is always the best policy. The best and easiest way of getting fantastic photos of yourself, is by being open with your photographer about how you are feeling, and to be kind to yourself. We all have “brain ghosts” that tell us we don’t look our best from time to time, but the best way to get rid of them in my opinion is having compassion for yourself. The negative thoughts are not coming from you originally, it is something society has pushed on all of us for most of our life. Forcing yourself to stand in front of the mirror and give yourself compliments, is a great way to start turning it around – and getting closer to the actual reality (that you are absolutely stunning).

I can promise you there’s something you genuinely like about yourself. Maybe you like the colour of your eyes? Or maybe you really like how long your legs are, or how your hair looks? Whatever it is, focus on that feeling and give yourself an honest compliment. Then – communicate this to your photographer so they know what to focus on when taking your picture.

Starting up like this and then following some of the steps below increases the chance of you feeling confident and comfortable in front of the camera. And your photos will turn out amazing!

How to prepare for your upcoming photoshoot

Step 1. Small things make a difference

To feel you best when modelling, especially if you’re not used to it, is really treating yourself to the small things. Buy a new nail polish (maybe something that matches what you’re wearing or choose a nude if you have multiple outfits💅 ).

Maybe get a brand new razor 🪒 I would recommend not to shave if possible until the day of the shoot for best results. Also mens shaving foam and an exfoliating glove or scrub gives you the silkie dolphin feeling from your dreams😉 Self care is always something to prioritise and it really shows when you stand in front of the camera.

Step 2: Feeling bloated is so 2008..💁🏼‍♀️

If you’re shooting something where you show a lot of skin and you’re worried about feeling bloated going into the shoot you’re not alone. That’s why I recommend cutting out dairy a few days before the shoot and increasing water intake. I would add a splash of lemon to the water to flush out toxins and reduce inflammation.

The day of the shoot, reduce the water intake slightly and MAKE SURE YOU EAT. Starving yourself because you think it will make you look slimmer will make you feel horrible during the shoot and the photos will reflect that. Please take care of yourself and be nice to your body.

If you need more guidance please contact a trained professional like a personal trainer or a dietician. I highly recommend Emilie at PT Marbella. She is very professional, knowledgeable and can guide you into feeling your best!

Step 3. Hair and makeup 💄

For a flawless look, prep your hair and skin the day before the shoot. Wash your hair and indulge in a hydrating facemask to ensure your makeup applies smoothly on clean, hydrated skin. When it comes to makeup, focus on one facial feature—be it your eyes, lips, or cheeks—and keep the rest of your face natural. If you’re unsure, start with a simple base, and we’ll be there to assist on the spot. For your hair, loose curls offer a timeless and effortlessly chic appearance, perfect for flipping and twirling during the shoot.

This is obviously very generic advice and you should do whatever makes you feel like a million bucks! Stay true to yourself and your beautiful quirks, and your photos will turn out amazing.

Step 4. Share your vision with your  photographer 📸

Sharing any inspirational photos or ideas you have in mind ahead of time, is a great way to make sure you and your photographer are on the same page. This ensures we understand your vision and can tailor the session accordingly. It would be even better if you tell your photographer about what specifically you love about your inspirational images.

Also, bring along a couple of pictures of yourself that you genuinely adore, whether they are selfies or professional photos. This insight helps us highlight your preferred angles, ensuring you love the final results.

Remember, my goal is to capture you at your best, so if you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out. Let’s make your photoshoot day a celebration of your unique beauty, translating into stunning, confidence-filled images! 🌟
